What ignited your love of gin?
Great question. Gin has always been the go-to drink in my family - G&Ts were the drink of choice growing up, we even have a dog named Saphi, after Bombay Sapphire.
When I was introduced to the team at the farm in Suffolk, I was immediately blown away by the project and the plans in place.
The vision has always been to create an environment where sustainable land stewardship, productive farming, and thriving biodiversity work hand in hand. One of the key regenerative practices is growing Starflower (borage) as part of the arable rotation, which helps boost biodiversity and improve soil health.
The starflower seed is already used in various oils, makeup, and skincare products -but our idea was to make use of the flower itself so that nothing went to waste. Naturally, the question became: how can we turn that into an alcohol? And as gin lovers, we started developing a recipe.
We quickly realised Starflower brought a light, accessible, subtly floral note to gin and hosted a number of blind tastings and the feedback was consistently positive, and it confirmed what we were hoping: that we had created a gin that not only tasted great but also told a meaningful story - rooted in sustainability, innovation, and a genuine love for the craft.
What’s the secret to Moatwood Gin? What makes it special?
A very well-balanced, deliciously smooth gin with an accessible, easy-drinking profile. Launching in 2024, at the tail end of the “gin boom,” we knew the liquid had to be exceptional - something that truly stood out and delivered everything you’d want from a great gin. We spent a long time refining the recipe, working with eight hand-selected botanicals, including the Starflower I mentioned earlier. It brings a light, subtly floral note that makes Moatwood so special - thanks to its distinctive character and a story rooted in sustainability and innovation.
G&Ts are an age-old classic. What other gin cocktails should we be trying?
A well-made Moatwood martini on a special occasion! Or a late night negroni
How would you describe your personal style? What qualities do you look for in the clothes you buy?
I think clothing has a uniquely powerful way of shifting your mood - finding that one piece that makes you feel confident and incredible in the moment. Everyone has that go-to item that just works, every time. Personally, I love brands that obsess over the details and help create that feeling. My style leans towards quality over quantity. I’d rather have a small rotation of really special pieces that I look after and let stand the test of time, rather than chase fast fashion. I’m drawn to timeless workwear, and I’d be remiss not to mention my absolute love for a well-made short sleeve shirt - it’s a staple in my wardrobe.
