Design
The Railway Jacket’s design is heavily influenced by that most enduring of workwear pieces: the Chore Jacket. A style that has literally been around for centuries as a beacon of utilitarian design: external patch pockets, unlined construction, and a straight cut for ease-of-movement.
The design's continued popularity arises from its flattering silhouette, versatility and general ease-of-wear. It’s one of those rare pieces that’s immune to transient, seasonal trends and never goes out of fashion.
Construction
Ours is made from an exceptional and very unusual 15oz Irish linen that’s unlike anything you’ll have seen in linen clothing. And that’s probably because the fabric was originally designed for premium upholstery.
But we think it’s even better as a jacket fabric. It’s very hard-wearing and substantial but still retains that wonderful quality of linen which sees it break in beautifully and only get better with age.
The jackets are made by hand in London, at a factory which prides itself on being one of the UK’s foremost suppliers of premium outerwear. It's fractionally longer than a classic chore jacket and the structured collar means it looks equally good dressed up or down.
Real life reaction
This is the piece from our heavyweight collection that really grabs people’s attention. It’s probably the piece which most comprehensively represents our aim to make linen that suits all seasons. Pictures cannot do justice to the texture and weave of the fabric.
And we love hearing the adventures people have been on while wearing theirs. They’ve been well-loved companions on mountain climbs, mackerel fishing trips, festival weekends, city-bound adventures, and many other contexts.
