In many ways, the Railway Jacket is our greatest success. After eight years in this game, we now realise there are very few opportunities to create something that's genuinely different and defensibly better than the alternatives. Call it inspired vision, call it naive optimism, but we stumbled upon something when we decided to repurpose a 15oz upholstery linen into an unlined chore jacket. It almost never saw the light of day - broken needles and frustrated seamsters nearly put the idea to bed. But the Railway Jacket found refuge on the denim machines, whose sturdiness was up to the challenge. One question remained. How would they wear over time? The early results were promising. And now, eight years later, those original samples look better than they ever did. Battle-softened by years of wear, they’ve become the jackets we reach for more than any others. For our money, autumn jackets don’t get any better. Something substantial enough to add a bit of warmth, breathable enough to keep on all day, and capable of tying almost any outfit together. Roll on, Railway Jacket, this is your time.

What's in a name?
We chose the Railway Jacket’s name as a nod to the chore jackets worn by French railway workers in the nineteenth century. But the name has come to mean something a little different now we’ve seen the journey each jacket goes on. The heavy linen starts out substantial and slightly starchy, then softens and develops character with every wear. Eight years and countless wears later, the original sample above makes the case better than we can.
