You’re forging your own sound in the folk space. What journey have you taken to your current style?
I think a similar one to most. Started out listening to the music I loved the most and then eventually tried making my own version - piggybacking on the aspects I loved the most in others music, and then one day all the references are stitched together and it’s its own new thing.
Storytelling is clearly an important part of your music. Can you tell us a bit more about your creative process?
I think for me in songwriting, the feeling and story comes first, finding something entertaining and exciting and reflective of reality in a meaningful way! I’m just looking to get excited really! Normally finding a good first line will make the rest of the song easier, but i’m not fussy. I’m trying to make music that’s comforting in the way my favourite music does for me and hopefully this playlist does for you.
How would you describe your own style? What qualities do you look for in a piece of clothing?
Comfort, how it looks and functional! I’m quite active, and have a medium sized wardrobe that I can interchange whether I’m at at a gig, in the studio, or going for a walk. I love clothes that can tell a story and work in the every day. I'm dressing for everyday, but I want it to look nice.
What’s next on the horizon for The Halfway Kid?
My next album is out on the 18th October and my biggest show yet will be at Lafayette, London on the 20th October! Come one, come all!
